There has been a growth in parents choosing other educational options for their children’s schooling. Parents are now offered more options when it comes to how they would like their children to be educated. These days there are a lot more options for your children as opposed to the days when you only had the option of public or private schools. Today, parents have the ability to choose from between magnet schools, homeschooling, traditional public schools, online schools, private schools, and charter schools. In what is called “the school choice movement”, there are critics and a good portion of those voices come from the opponents of charter schools in specific. These particular critics quite often accuse charter schools of stealing away “their” needed resources as well as “their” students from the district and neighborhood schools.
It should come as no surprise that the number of high schools dropouts are greater within cities as opposed to dropout rates in urban areas. What you may not know and be shocked at are the numbers. The magnitude of the gap in dropout rates is probably a lot higher than you would have imagined. The fact of the matter is that in the country’s 50 largest cities, only 53% of high school students graduate while urban high schools see a 71% graduation rate. That’s an incredibly large gap.
A school administrator is a job entailing lots of responsibility. You are the head of the school and are responsible for each student’s education and have to maintain and improve the school’s reputation at any cost. You also have to decide on staffing decisions, which is why these many qualities make a great school principal.
A superintendent, when you get right down to it, is the CEO of a school district. Not only are they responsible for supervising and hiring other administrators, they also choose who will be the chief financial officer as well as who is hired to become the school principals. Although the superintendent is responsible for what happens within a school district, they are still answerable to the board of trustees. However, unlike principals and teachers, a superintendent isn’t hired, they’re elected into the position. So, what are the qualities that make for a great superintendent of a school district?
What makes a great principal? It shouldn’t just stop at your love of education or your desire to improve the lives of the young people around you. There’s more to being a principal than meets the eye. You should have qualities that cover a vast array of talents and abilities. After all, a principal is just like a president. Lead them well!
The public education system has changed quite a lot over the last 20 years. Not only do we see more technology in the classrooms lately, but we are also seeing more programs that help those children in need of it.
For those children that would have suffered through school and never even truly learned to read, we see that there are such things in place as “No Child Left Behind” and “IEP”(Individualized Education Program). There was a demand for improvement and as such, there have been many changes since the 90’s.
